Summer 2024

Big things are happening this summer with the foundation.  We have a new mission statement and are updating our Facebook page often to show all the great things that are happening. We greatly appreciate the support we have received from the community over the past four years!

Our Mission

Declan's Day Foundation was established in 2020 after the sudden passing of our son Declan. A cause was never found, a syndrome known as Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC). Initially, we established the foundation with a focus on raising awareness of SUDC. That singular focus has evolved over time however and led us towards a desire to be involved in a very specific way with helping to improve the mental health of our community and people coping with loss. You see, during the summer following Declan's passing, we started a garden in our backyard and also planted two Cherry trees in his memory. Every year, Kelly and I have expanded our garden, and it is now a "micro farm" complete with chickens, a mini orchard, and a vegetable plot almost four times the original size. Over time, we have come to the realization of just how much of an impact our tiny farm has had towards improving our mental health and in helping us process our grief. We want to use our foundation to help other people start their own gardens and micro farms and in the process learn a new way to cope with the challenges and pain we all inevitably experience.
